My best sounding exhaust had a cat, a Dynomax perforated core resonator, a Moroso spiral core resonator, and an Apex-i WS2 muffler. This was on a big crammed (C3) DE revving to 9k and not a VE, but big lobes on a ported head can't be far from the VE experience. I didn't get really loud until past 7500, similar to what happens with VVL

Panda's new exhaust will be interesting. 3" VRS tubing kit, no cat, 24" Dynomax perf core resonator, Moroso spiral core resonator, and straight pipe rear section with a turn down. Sounds great up to 6k, solenoids not hooked up yet (waiting for my MegaSquirt from Shaggy) so have not yet had the pleasure of crackin vtak

If you were asking me, no I didn't have a cat on mine. Only made it worse

Do you have an exhaust tip? I find that it actually makes a difference to push the noise away from the car a bit.

I still love my setup, very quite when cruising but gets loud as RPM increases.
3" SS VRS, 3" Magnaflow Cat, Magnaflow Resonator, Dynomax VT muffler. I can hear tire noise on the interstate when cruising over the exhaust, it has a nice low tone and still makes good power. I will never run a car without a cat, way too loud plus it helps clean things up a bit too.
