Thread: Reinstalling Transmission, But I Have Some Questions

Hey guys,

Just got my tranny back from the shop a couple of days ago and just noticed that the 2 springs where the throwout beearing (mainshaft bearing) is are missing. Is this something that has to be purchased at the dealer? I don't know the name of the springs, but it looks like they go right above and under the bearing to allow for the fork around the bearing to go back to it's original position once the clutch is released. Can the bearing from a 94 SE-R be used? Also, are there any other spacers or snap rings that go with the bearing? It looks like the FSM shows both right above the bearing.

This is on a 99 Manual P11.

So you need the clips to hold the throw-out bearing to the clutch arm forks?

Yah, your description is super confusing. There are two clips that hold the throw-out bearing to the clutch fork. However, the throw-out bearing is completely different from the "mainshaft" bearing, which really is not a thing at all.
There is a spring in the situation. It wraps around the clutch pivot shaft, and helps return the clutch fork. Are you missing that?

Yeah, my description wasn't the best. The springs are what's missing and possibly the clips that hold the throw-out bearing. Other than that is there anything else that goes there?

Two rolls pins on each hole to hold the fork to the clutch arm. Inner and outer roll pins.

Two clips to hold the throw-out bearing onto the clutch fork.

And the one spring that keeps the throw-out bearing and clutch arm "in sync" or maintain the arm to be withdrawn when clutch is engaged.

I can't remember if the '99 P11 was a hydraulic clutch or not, but if it is, the spring in the above picture is not needed. The clips that hold the throw out bearing to the arm, are dealer only, and are only a few bucks. I like to support people like Greg, but the shipping charges alone would cost more than what the local dealer would charge.

Last 99 P11 I saw did have hydraulic clutch so this would be correct. No spring needed if you are using hydraulic clutch.

Any pics of the clips and the spring that keeps the throw out bearing in sync? Or are the clips all I really need?

The clips should be really all you need. They aren't easy to see in detail, but they are in the picture in post #3.
