How Bad is it?
Hello sr20 world.

A little while back I had (what i thought) was some valve float and had a valve snap and play pin ball in the combustion chamber. This for sure destroyed the head and piston. (If anyone wants pictures i guess i could upload them).

Any who, I am just getting to tearing apart the rest of the motor and trying to decide on whether or not the block is salvageable without boring.

There is some scratching in the top ~1/2 inch of the cylinder wall, a nick on the very top (pretty sure I could clean this up) and one of the parts that concerns me is the noticeable ding toward the bottom in the 2nd picture.

Please let me know what you think and thank you in advance.

Those bores will need to be cleaned up (honing at the very VERY minimum). It is not usable in its current state (unless you like tons of blow by, increase ring wear, etc)

So I am in the market for at least one piston. Wonder if i should just get 4 and go full bore (10 over? 20?). And if i do that don't SR's require a special bore plate?

Damn motor only had a few miles on it.

you would be better off grabbing a used DE. the cost for the pistons, and machine work will be roughly the same cost as a used motor.

Any boring SHOULD be done with a torque plate typically. Can you get away with not using one for a simple bore/hone?? Probably.........

Yeah i just picket up a used roller rocker and some VE springs. Just wanted to know my options as I still have this motor. Not just going to throw it away because it's cheaper to do other things.

attach a chain to it and reuse it as a boat anchor.

Make a coffee table out of it.

if you have storage space readily available, just hold onto it, eventually getting a good block will become more difficult and you'll be glad you have it available.
