Thread: Gas tank drain plug? B13

I will be installing my walbro fuel pump in the next week and my gas tank is about half full of some old dirty gas from 2008 when I purchased the car. Wondering if there's a drain plug anywhere on the gas tank itself. If not I think I'll purchase one of these http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-80250 and install it at the same time I replace my pump. Thanks Dave

What if you disconnected your fuel line and prime the old pump until it's dry? Won't get all of it but most of it should come

Yea that's what I wanted to do originally but I want to get the tank good and clean and not risk clogging any line's as I dont have a compressor on hand to clean the line's. Thanks Dave

Drilling into a tank with gas would be ill advised. Get a pump from harbor freight. 7.99 Search results for: 'pump'

Yes I wasn't going to drill into the tank with the gas in there. If there isn't an oem drain plug, The plan was to use a pump to get as much out as possible and add the drain plug for ease in the future (might aswell) after the gas is empty. Then drag a magnet around to pick up any metal in the tank. Any other suggestions on cleaning the tank would be great too. Thanks Dave

you are going to be hand pumping. I would just pump the fuel out under the car using the fuel pump. its a short run between the gas tank and the bottom where the rubber line meets the hard line.

You can use the old pump,just put a piece of hose long enough to go outside the car into a bucket or gas can.
Then run a jumper wire to the battery....and pump away.

Harbor Freight hand pump $7.99... Remove sending unit and have at it. I did this last night to take out some 7 year old gas.

Ya unfortunately, at least in the b14, you can't siphon gas out of the tank. There's some sort of block in between the fill hole and the tank which blocks you from putting a tube into the fuel tank.

You take out the pump and pump from there, not through the filler.
