Cooling fan not activating.
have a new to me vvl b14 that gets hot in traffic. The problem seems to be the fan. The ac was removed, so the remaining fan never seems to turn on. Any pointers on how to test the fan or fan switch would be appreciated.

Btw. I checked the relays and tstat is new. Thanks

How hot is the car getting? Is that a reading off the stock ECT sensor or an aftermarket one?

Check your fuseable links, fuses and relays.

will your fans turn on if you jump them off direct power?

Cooling fan not activating.
Normally the gauge hangs just under half way. But in traffic it got up to about 75 percent once. I'm pushing to about 60 percent and it doesn't kick on. Stock gauge seems to at least work since temp does come down when I turn on the heat.

I swapped relays (blue). And what I think the links are (green) with other ones. But I haven't found any regular fuses under the hood for rad fan

start by battery testing both fans. if both fans cut on then check the fusable link under the hood.

Cooling fan not activating.
Since ac was removed I only have one. I assume that means running wires to the battery to see if it fires up?

Any ideas where the the temp switch is located on a vvl motor?

head temp switch is on the passenger side of the block below the intake. the connector has two wires. the fuse for the fans is under the hood on the drivers side. So do you have one fan or two? even with out the a/c you should have two fans in the car.

Prev owner removed the second fan. To make room for the header

Here's one resolution. I could NOT find why my fans weren't coming on. No clue. Everything checked out. They just didn't ever come on and the VE started to overheat when it was hot out sitting in traffic.

Solution was to wire a switch directly from the fans to the battery that's mounted in the cabin, I just have to remember to turn it on every now and then when Im sitting a light too long. oh and I only run distilled water and Redline water wetter so that helps too.

yes, wire the fans directly to the battery

on the front of the engine, under the intake manifold. (back passanger side of the engine bay)

you have a coolant temp sensor that talks to the ecu (2 wire) and a coolant temp sending unit that talks to the gauge in the clutster (1 wire)

also

when you engine swap was done, did those two sensors get swapped out to match the ECU you are using?
