oil pan interchangeability or compatability questions
DET noob here....OK this may be a dumb question...I hope not

I was wondering which oil pans(upper and lower) are interchangeable from the varios SR20 engines.

I am asking because I have an avenir that I believe has a crack in the upper pan and is leaking.I wanted to replace it ,but before I look for a replacement,I wanted to try to use what I have on hand already.
I have a VE and/or a Highport DE upper/lower pan setups on hand....can I use either of these on the Avenir,or is it unique?

I suppose I could take it all apart and see for myself, trial by error, but I was hoping to tap into the vast knowledge here instead

I think the pick up is different on the DE vs VE. I know it is on the SR16 vs SR20VE. I tried to use a SR20VE pick up on a SR16VE and it didn't jell right. The setup was SR16VE upper and lower and 2.0 Pick up on the SR16VE pump didn't work.

yeah, good point...I was assuming that whatever upper pan I used,I may need the corresponding pickup as well.

I thought as long as you did the full swap of upper and lower and everything that goes along with it, it'll work out okay. ...but has anyone actually done the swaps who can confirm this?

Just use the the same upper, lower, and pickup and you should be fine.

I know you can run de pans on a ve motor and the other way around. The det block is skinnier than the de and ve motor so I would think the det upper pan would be different. You you should be able to measure it and find out.

Cortrim is right. DET oil pan is skinner than the DE and VE.
