can the stealership cut keys for a b13?
the key that i have for my nx seems like a copy of a copyied key....and doesnt work very well (plus its twisted).

i called the dealership nearest me and they told me that i needed a key code from inside my glove box...wtf?......so i looked inside it and i found no key code.

how can i get a dealer quality key that is 100% made/cut for my 1991 nx?

cant they use the vin to make it? anyone else have this problem?

They should be able to bring up the key code by VIN, if not then if you have an existing key you can go to Home Depot and they can cut a key from your existing one....Just remember to " wear down " your new key....usually a wire brush on a die grinder will do the trick.....

B13's are too old. The key codes are not in Nissan's system anymore. If your dealer is good and patient, they *may* be able to figure out the cuts from your worn key and make a new one. I've done it before with marginal success.

One time when I lost my keys, I had a locksmith come out and create a new key by just using my car's locks.

the dealer will not have the key code unless enterd at the time of purchase......sales men are lazy and very stupid. they dont know what a key code is, nor do they care, they just wana sell the damn thing and make some moneys.

with that said the chances of the code being in the system are very very poor. the "code out of your glove box" statement was telling you to try to find a small metal tag inside of your owners manual. i am very lucky, as i bought my car from the origonal owner and he taped it to the owners manual

since your key is twisted and you say the fitment is very poor you really only have 1 option. you have to take it to a lock smith. he will be able to figure out how the key needs to be changed to work smoothly, as well as cut a new key even tho yours is twisted.

you can not take the key to home depot and have a little pimply faced high school employee cut it. key cutting machines are computerized and will cut exactly what you have now......if its twisted it will trough the teeth off.....that is if it will even slide into the machine.

im offended!!! the machines we have are shitty, and need to be calibrated all the time theyll cut the key a few millimeters completely off

I dunno , when i went to Home Depot, the dude that cuts keys inserted my key into some slot and started cutting, when i got to my car i inserted it and it was kinda too " sharp " and ddnt turn in the ignition, i had a die grinder with a wire wheel on it so when i got home i grinded some of the key metal off until it felt " rounded " , stuck it in the ignition and it fired up....worked for me but i ddnt have a bent key either.....

Some cars had a little white sticker stuck to the top of the inside of the glove box with the key code on it. My old t-top NX had it, but not my hard top nor my SE-R.

As far as taking it to a locksmith, it will save you money if you take out the ignition cylinder and just take that to them. That's what I did. Actually, the guy I took it to found two Nissan keys that he had laying around that almost perfectly matched the one he cut from looking at the pins in the tumbler! He gave those to me for free since they were just spares laying around. And, the best part is, they came with the little silver tag If you do it this way, (take it to a locksmith) ask him to check his spare Nissan keys that could be modified in 1 or 2 places to make them fit your tumbler. That way, you can buy a generic key for the cutting and then have Nissan keys for cheap (or free if you're lucky).
