You will have to search it for more info.
I bought mine here from a member as a complete package .

Do you have a part number for the u-joint... or maybe a pic of the 2 side by side. I plan on installing my manual rack when i do my VE swap and want to make sure I have all I need. Thanks

I'm bringing this thread back up because I'm in the process of installing a manual rack on my NX.

My situation though is that my car comes with an airbag equipped steering wheel. I spun the steering gear end to end and counted 4.5 revolutions. So I just centered by counting back 2.25 revolutions.

Before I removed the power steering rack i made sure to steer the wheels straight.

I'm thinking my centered position on the steering gear was correct because the tie rods lined pretty much with the hubs in the straight direction.

The problem i'm having is that the steering wheel does not want to go all the way to the right. I get some resistance in the wheel and hear a ractheting kinda of grinding noise within the steering wheel housing. I'm thinking that my air bag cable will not allow the steering wheel to go all the way to the right.

Has anybody installed a manual rack on a airbag equipped car? If you have did you run into this problem?

Hey everyone I answered my own question. I think my steering wheel was not properly centered before I removed the power steering rack. What I did was spin it to the left one revolution.

After bolting everything up I was able to get lock to lock without the ratcheting noise. The manual rack is 4.21 turns lock to lock. The Se-R/NX2000 rack is 2.74 turns lock to lock per the FSM and actual testing.

I"m going to have to look at the airbag cables to see if I damaged anything with the ratcheting sound that took place.

I'm thinking I might skip the manual rack on my NX. Its heading to track car status. The extra hand movement required for steering input looks like it might become a pain in the ass while on the track.

^^good info.
I still havent installed the manual rack in my track car yet.
Originally the car was gonna be for the strip, but now it will see some autocrossing and roadcourse,so we will see how the slower steering plays out.
I am still gonna try it,because I like the simplicity and weight of the manual setup.
I guess I feel the oppoite as you,and would not put the manual rack on my roadcar, but I dot wnt the power steering on the track.

pull-a-part FTW! my buddy got a full E rack swap for like 40 bucks. he didnt get the u-joint cause he didnt know he needed it at the time, but he used a penny between the splines on the old u-joint and it worked fine. just make sure you tighten the piss out of it...

Hey Eggman, it's been a while....

I have been running an E rack in my E ever since I bought it in 1995. I think it would be fine for a drag car, but the steering is sooo slow! I think it sucks for autocross because of how slow it is. It is a big adjustment going from my MR2 spyder to my Sentra, super quick to super slow! I understand what you are saying about the weight and simplicity for a track car, but think about this, I run the power steering in my race car. I ran with it unhooked for a couple of seasons, but hooked it back up just to reduce the physical effort required to race the car. Racing is pretty physical as it is, so anything to help....you get the point.

So there is my input into the matter.

Now if only I can find the thread about reolcating the alternator to the power steering pump position.....

^^^ Thanks Russell.Great info.
I may try it out anyway, since a DE is going in the racecar to start. If its too much,I will put the Power rack back in later when I upgrade the motor.
