Big tranny problem
95 200sx se-r

Dropped car off at shop to get throw out bearing and cv axles replaced. They told me there is a crack in the bell housing and the tranny mount is broken and the bolts for the mount are broken off and stuck inside the housing. It is also stuck in fourth gear. They tell me I may have to replace the tranny. My questions are what should I do, is there any way to salvage the current tranny? If not, what cars can I get a 5 speed from that will be compatible? There is a Sentra in a local yard with a 5 speed but it has the 1.6(?) engine. Will that tranny work?

Tired of dumping money into this lemon....

Thank you in advance.

the 1.6 Trans is different. If your trans has a sensor in the bellhousing then you have to go with a B14 Trans to keep the engine light off. Otherwise you can go with a B13,14 P10 (Only if it's LSD) or P11 pending how deep your pocket is. The cheapest would be replacing your entire trans

In my opinion,if you dont work on the car yourself, you should sell it....or learn to work on it yourself.
Why? because you are already calling it a lemon, and this is one of the most durable, reliable, cheap, and easy to repair vehicles I have ever owned.(and I have had many new and used cars over the years)
Simply put the cost of paying for repairs to be done by someone else outweighs the value of the car.

That being said...if you just get a known good used trans, and have it swapped in,you are gonna come away cheaper as far as labor goes.(about 300 for trans, plus labor)
Otherwise, getting a blown trans with a good case(free-100 bucks maybe) and have your internals swapped into it....but that will undoubtedly be more labor.

Another option would be to find a local member to help you out .You may find someone with parts and the ability to do the labor too.If you were local I would help you out.Where are you located?

Good Luck. I hate to see you give up.but remember its a 20 year old used car,and most cars that age are not gonna just be a "pump gas and drive" car

Are you talkin bell housing or the case? I could probably part with either of those pieces or both but chances are you got more problems then just the crack but I do have some extra gears an a diff too..

For the right price I could put a trans together for ya but shippings not cheap.

Thank you for the replies, guys. I am located in upstate NY. They told me it was the housing. I would prefer to keep the car. I have already sunk alot of money into it since I bought it this past fall. Some of wich includes $400+ for a set of snow tires. I am in the hole too deep with this thing as it is, I may as well keep digging and come out the other side lol. I typically do most work on cars myself, but I dont have a lift so that is why I brought it to the shop to get the throw out bearing replaced. Its not that its a total lemon, but it turned out to have more problems than what was disclosed at time of purchase. Getting tired of bumming rides to and from work!

So a P11 manual will work? There is one at a local yard. I may get that one if you guys say it works! It be a gamble because I do not know if it works, but what the heck.

P11 manual will work, but I think only the 99 are cable. You can convert it,but again thats not something you want to have a shop do(at least I wouldnt.)

FYI I have done motor swaps and trannie swaps in my yard which is dirt and on a hill,so a lift is not needed.
However,I can not say I enjoy working like that, but I just dont trust anyone to work on my car.

You are surrounded by sr20deep guys up there...I would recommend that put up a wanted thread in the NE section and see what you come up with.
Heres a couple off the top of my head for you

Where in upstate are you located? I also live in upstate and have a B15 LSD trans for sale and B13 LSD trans for sale. Also can install. Let me know if you are interested. Would need a few hours on a day off to have the old one out and everything back in action.
