Short Shifter Q's
Got my ebay short throw shifter in, had a quick question before tackling it!

Installing the new shifter, Was just worried if the shifter ball on the bottom would fit thru that 'hole' ? Which way did is best to feed the new shifter? Mine has the base and all that intact, I've seen some shifters like b&m that has it off the rod, which would make it eaiser but I would not be disassembling the new piece

Not sure which shifter you bought, but the hole is oval shaped that you go through from the top,so it should go right in if you rotate it to the correct position to go in the oval hole.

You would be able to see that clearly if you have it apart. If that doesnt work, then you will have to disassemble the shifter. I have tried just about every short shifter on the market over the years and never had a problem.
Good luck

Knockoff b&m . I've been told the ball ends won't pull out of the hole but wonder how u fit it in the first place!

Edit

Nvm I got it done, took off all assembly and fed shifter from bottom then added base and pined it down with the c ring! So far so good

How do you like it? I just ordered it. Any tips on install? Did you run into anything like fitment or other issues(besides this issue heh)? Do the shifts feel solid and stable?

@gomba

Good buy. Took me 2 hrs by myself, would be less than 45 mins now

I'm running open dp so I didn't have problems with taking off cat etc. Anyway after u take off the cat, get the shield off and u remove three bolts underneath, don't take off the spring as it can be avoided.

Hard part for me was the little parts that came with the new short shifter. Take off the base on the new shifter and knob and feed the rod thru from the bottom as the shift ball will not fit the oval underneath for shit like ppl said, then assemble from up top! Also use three washers as bushings / spacers instead of (4), its too stiff with 4.

Overall: it feels great! Very stable, but notchy feeling. I have no experience with other shifters obviously lol but I will never go back to stock. This is a great buy for all us b chassis's. feels like itll last a long time. The throw feels 50% shorter than stock. Mine actually shortened too by an inch or so! Any other questions lemme know! I would ramble more but no-time

Hey,

Just got done doing this tonight heh

I filed the entire hole down to be able to stick it in from within the car, from the top. Also, we did use all 4 washers, but not sure what you mean by too stiff? I did this with a 3" exhaust and was able to do it without taking the exhaust off, which made the job a little harder, but would have been more work to drop the exhaust (at least on my car). But it can definitely be done w/exhaust on the car.

Ya it feels good and solid. I've heard 'stories' that it degrades quickly or something within a couple weeks but I've heard others who've used it for 5+ years with no issues. We'll see.

The best shifter is the stock one, just knock the pivot ball up the shaft a bit.

Allows you to retain all the stock hardware keeping a smooth shift, plus its free.

Also if you wrap some tape around the black rubber housing that goes around the pivot ball cup so that its snug in the bracket this improves shifter feel a lot.

Nobody listens to me.
I have been saying this for years. I have tried them all.
Heres some pics and info from a few years ago
I will NEVER buy another short shifter again...total waste of money if you ask me.

FYI the B13 stock shifter is an inch shorter than B14 so if you mod one ,use a B13 or it wont be any shorter than stock height, although it will still have a shorter throw after modded.

My import shifter was shorter than my UK one in length but I actually prefer the longer one with the ball moved up.

Short shifters only feel good on cable operated setups imo
