Thread: my prothane MM alternative.....

so upon inspecting my 17 year old motor mounts.....the pass and drivrs side mount were garbage.....the front dogbone and rear x member already have es inserts, but that wasnt good enough for me....

so after waiting to see if anyone in the classifieds were selling peices of a prothane set; both side mounts, i had no luck. but even after asking serban to split up a set of prothanes with no luck i found something i thought i would try......while searching a bit i found some sttuff like this....

i did do both mounts but before i decided to take pics of my work

this is the stuff i used...bought at autozone for 16$

and the filled in mount,all cracks,and gaps are all gone aftewards...and tried to smooth out as much as possible ,but this **** is SUPER messy..

so this only cost me 16$ and im waiting to drive my car to see the difference....with the NEW urethane it feels harder than the stock rubber did..and will post with updates as to how much better the slop in the motor is

I have heard that the 2 part works better, but it should work. Check this out.

I think I'm gonna do this on my front mount (it's shot haha)

that window weld stuff is really hard after a day and a half of drying....


while you are at it, i suggest you take out or inspect ALL of your mounts....chances are the other mount are bad as well if you think the front moune is bad....

i cant wait to drive it to see how it feels....

i might do this to my versa mounts

I have used McMaster as well, and read that it is better. Couldn't say for sure.

I just did this to my stock nx on the rear mount...I used a bnib mount,and filled it.I just wanted to help firm it up a little,but still not rattle and shake like poly.
I also put a set of ES inserts in the dogbone on this car,with oem mounts for the other two,Works great.The best of both worlds if you are not making big power.

I filled mine before going with the prothanes. It worked very well, but did not cure my wheel hop issues (stock springs). I went solid on the mounts and it is a lil harsh. But very liveable.

You will get the best results if you clean out the rubber on your old mounts extremely well before filling them. They need to be clean or you may have the urethane separate from the rest of the mount and doing you no good.


But overall it is an awesome mount setup when done right. I loved mine, it just didn't stiffen it up quite enough.

it is always interesting to see people tinkering with their cars and posting!

However, using window-weld and various urethane solutions is not really an "alternative to prothanes". It has been around years before Prothanes appeared, and actually years before Energy Suspension became a brand. Back then it was not an alternative but the only solution!

I love my Prothanes, they do shake a little bit but the car hooks up nice, takes off great and i dont feel the slop of crappy mounts.
