Pops out of 3rd gear
'95 200sx se-r manual transmission

Started doing this recently. Will pop out of third gear by itself. Also, there is a noticeable noise coming from the tranny or engine when my foot is off the clutch. Like a metallic whirrrring, almost grinding(?) noise. When I depress the clutch, it goes away. I have been told this can be the input shaft bearing. IF the shaft bearing is bad, would that cause the gears do disengage by themselves?

Thanks in advance!

Also, I was told when I bought the car it has an aftermarket clutch. Not sure what brand.

The noise and pop-out may be related, but I don't think a bad input shaft bearing would be causing 3rd to pop out.

a bad rear engine mount is normally the cause of 3rd gear popping out Ive found

I've had 3rd and fifth gear pop out in the same trans. The fifth gear pop out condition was definitely more severe. Only once in a while would I get the 3rd gear pop out.

I plan to open up that trans at some point. I also noticed that the transmission was on the noisy side. It had like a race transmission whine to it.

Man I haven't had third gear pop out since my 88 sentra.... Didn't know our trans had the issue. Either way bro if it's not the trans mount causing binding of any sort then the trans gotta come out... In which case I got a nice p11 to sell ya!!!!

The trans is getting difficult to shift. Could the noise be a throw out bearing? And would that make it hard to shift?

Mine makes the same noise in the same situation but no pop out. 99% sure I just need a throw out bearing. I would check your rear mount like these guys are saying. Also what does your gear oil look like?
