Has anyone heard of or has done this before?
So today I had a conversation with an old dude who builds motors and he suggested that if I'm building or letting an engine sit for a few months out of a car, I should fill up my spark plugs with tranmission fluid for the time being. Then drain it out when I'm almost done with the build to keep the cylinder rings, etc. lubed till I actually drop it inside a car. Has anyone tried or has done this?

I could see how that would work

Seriously though, it sounds like a decent idea. However, IMO, I would just use motor oil instead. That way, as it slowly leaks into the engine you at least don't have transmission fluid contaminating your oil? And you can drain the block back to where it should be.

Just put a little oil in each cylinder and spin to coat the walls and rings, you dont need to fill it all the way up. A couple of cap fulls would do.

I'm sure he meant, fill the cylinders THRU the spark plug holes...but somehow EYE think EWE NEW this

It's an old mechanics trick used to free up sticking valves and lifters...works great on freeing up sticking/seized rotary apex seals too. I've done it with no issues...keeps things from rusting/seizing.

...and as mentioned, I would use regular motor oil.

I have done this with Marvel Mystery oil. A few ounces in each cyl.
In fact I have a VE in storage like this now.

I heard Marvel Mystery works wonders. Cheap too. $10 at wal-mart.

My bad Ben. I meant fill thru the spark plug holes.

Thanks for all the feedback. Looks like I'll be doin that to my RR-T since I won't be swapping it into my B14 till spring.

Another good option, i use this stuff on lots of things from air tools to door locks. works great.
They even say to put it in your oil and gas.
