climate control and coolant smell/missing coolant...
'95 200sx se-r

Hello all, I am having two issues; The first being my climate control fan only comes on at the '4' (highest) setting. 1-3 do not work at all. I have checked fuses.

The second issue is I am getting a coolant smell when the climate fan is blowing (inside cabin) while driving. Also, I have noticed that I am losing coolant and I have to top off the radiator about once a week. I cannot pinpoint the leak yet. Oil looks good so hopefully no head gasket issue. I am not overheating, temp. gauge always stops at just under halfway and stays there.

The weather is not cooperating so I have not had ample time to diagnose these issues. I don't have easy access to a garage to work on it, but I would like to get a ballpark idea for when I can. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you all in advance.

is coolant moving into your overflow tank? if so then it is likly your radiator cap. it also could be some type of restriction causing extra pressure.

if you look on your passanger side firewall you will see two hoses goin into it. coolant flows through those hoses, they are for your heat. perhaps their is a small leak somewhere in their?

when you have a dry day, drive hard then turn the car off right after and park somewhere where you will be able to notice water on the floor. if their is no water then you eliminated quite a few potential leak spots.

Sounds like your blower motor resistor isn't working that's is why you only have full power going to it.

Also forgot to mention, check to see if your passenger foot well is wet, if it is then antifreeze is leaking in through the heater core. Probably are going to need to replace it.

Could be heater core orrrrrr could be the leak I just found coming from the coolant leaking out of the rubber hose on the back of the engine.

I was loosing and smelling coolant for a long time, it was dripping and burning off my exhaust so I never had a puddle

The blower motor resistor is behind/below the glovebox...on the inside of the car...I'm sure some searches would find you pics and stuff...

I quickly found THIS...didn't know you could get the resistor at Advance Auto Parts

Blower resistor is passenger side of the car against the interior of exterior (that make sense?) down by where your passengers right foot would be.

One of the easiest things to do, I think it's held in by two 10 or 12mm nuts/screws, pull old one out, plug new one in that's it.

Thank you. I don't mean to be spoon-fed but this is my daily driver and I plan on working on it tomorrow. ANy idea if the b14 Sentra or P11 G20 uses the same one? There is a Sentra and 2 p11s at my local Pick n Pull....
