I'd check the connection at the back of the cluster, then the cable itself, then the cluster in that order. I had a similar experience in my black '92 SE-R and it was the connection at the back of the cluster.

But under no circumstances would I swap out the best ('91-'92) B13 cluster for anything else. Cable driven or not, anything else is a downgrade IMHO, especially that digital NX crap.

the odomoter and speedo do not work when this happens, the trip odometer actually extremely slowly turns backwards, kind of like christine, oddly enough the car is red also!!

Ah, gotcha. Thankfully it's not! The gear oil I speak of was seeping out from around the sides of where the cable engages with the transaxle. Not much, but enough to see something was wrong! I thought maybe it had just loosened up, so I tried reinstalling and tightening it on the side of the road and it worked briefly. Drove without a speedometer for a month or two before ordering a new one from NissanPartsZone (great website)

to me i think the 93' NX and 93'-94' SE-R cluster is the best, i like the newer layout, with the electronic speedo and the clock still built in to the cluster. for some reason, when i went from my B13 to a B14, it drove me nuts not to be able to see what time it was directly in front of me.

That clock was actually given negative reviews for being unneccesary, especially since the radio has a clock too. lol

With my B13 SE-R in a warm garage for the winter and driving a B14 SE-R, I know exactly what you mean! It's such a minor thing, but it did take some getting used to!

thats ridiculous, i mean, now days, since you change the stock stereo. but now that I think about it, this 92' of my cousins still has the stock stereo, and it doesnt have a clock.

been tinkering with this, and i know now its coming out of the speedo gear on the transmission for sure, but the tooth is still there and not rounded. so now my question is, if anyone has had any issue with this is, if i throw some heavy grease in where the keyway and speedo cable meet up, do you think that it will hold the speedo gear in, or no?
