If you are blowing a fuse at first power-up, it is most likely a short somewhere. I had a wire rubbing on a hard brake line along the firewall, eventually rubbed away the insulation on the wire. Was blowing the engine control fuse every time. Fixed the exposed wire, no more blown fuses. The car will run with a blown engine control fuse, just no cooling fans (obd1 car though). If you are also getting no spark, I would first check the ignition system, maybe the wiring for the coil or the ignitor chip.
