Thread: shifter bushings causing rattle?

hi all! on my 96 se-r i have been getting a crazy rattling noise in 1st and 2nd maybe third. only does it between 800-3k rpms. i started changing out bushings that looked worn and that wasnt it. took it to 3 shops and they all heard it but had no clue. so recently i found the es shifter stabilizer bushing and the es swab bar link for the back. crawled under the car and if you grab the shifter rod, i can easily shake it back and forth and here it clanking around where the cat is. so i went to autozone and ordered the bushings (hoping to sell the extra) and will be doing this friday.

driving i noticed you can here the shifter bang when the noise happens, so i believe im onto something. question is, has anyone else had this problem? thank you again.

I just did a swap this weekend and the shifter was hitting the cat heatshield because the stupid bushing tore and literally that is all that holds it in there... I ended up welding a bar over the old bushing considering nobody had a bushing in stock and the car needed to be done... Maybe it is the same thing which is wrong with yours...

ok, thank god im not alone lol. yes thats the "bushing" ordered. so i should be ok, just glad im not alone.
