$500 for a u pull it transmission (and misc parts) is crazy expensive. I missed the chance to get one at a local u-pull-it because I didnt know they crushed cars after 45 days. It was $75 plus 25 core and they have half price days so for about 60 bucks you could get what you need. You might want to make sure its still there before you go. Depending on how muddy the place is you may want to bring a mosquito repellant. DOn't get infected with junkyard bacteria/virus/lime disease that stuff can be really nasty infectious. If you dont want to pull the axle out you can make more space by taking the strut assembly off , it's only 3 more 12mm bolts on the strut tower. I would bring my transmission jack just because I wouldnt want to drop the tranny from any height. Bring a can of pepsi or coke to "unstick" the axle nut; the junk yard may even have a vending machine for that lol.

We're not just talking the trans here, we're talking EVERYTHING I need for the swap, minus parts like the CV axles and clutch/flywheel/seals which I will be purchasing new. I just checked, the starters are the same so I don't need that. If I take the wiring and ECU, who knows what they will charge for that. Last time I was there to check the cars (they have 4 of them, all manual) he quoted me $380 for the trans, cross member, pedals and shifter assembly. I have a list of everything I need, so I will ask about the price for everything before I start pulling and try to negotiate it down if I can.

Bring EVERY TOOL you have. Several times i gave up on a part bc i had a 13mm and not a 14mm socket or something. Had to leave and go back.

Also, and this is very important, bring a long extendable magnet thingy in case you drop bolts in hard to reach places. Those things are one of the greatest inventions ever

blackb15, how much are they charging you for the trans? Seems a little high for all those parts, but what are ya gonna do? Not like these cars are everywhere. My pull-a-part charges $120 for a trans, i got my b15 lsd one at half price because i know the cop that patrols on saturdays.

I agree, negotiate HARD before you go into the yard and start pulling. After all, you're going to spend the afternoon there. Also, bring water!!! Many people look over this and get dehydrated easy! Nothing worse than working with a massive headache.

Not sure what they charge just for the trans, I'll be asking. I'm sure we'll bring water although the weather is supposed to be fantastic (low 70's) however a 20% chance of rain in the morning. If it's too bad, will just have to go on Sunday instead.

So this is my "to-acquire" list, what does everyone think is a reasonable price for this stuff?

Transmission (non-LSD)
Shifter Rods & shifter assembly
Cross Member w/mounts
Clutch & brake pedals
Engine & Trans Harness
ECU
Misc. Brackets

You can usually hide stuff in any random car. Hide under a seat of a different model. I once hit a headlight and forgot about it, it was there a year later still under a seat. Of course the bigger the junkyard the better.

I shouldn't need to hide anything, but just wondering on the average going rate for these parts.
