Pulling 5-Speed at scrap yard. What tools?
Heading to the scrap yard next weekend to pull a 5-speed and most of the necessary parts I need for a 5-speed conversion. Anyone that's done this before with hand tools, what all will I need to bring with me? Socket sizes, etc?

In addition to Kyle's list:
32mm deep socket for axle
17mm wrench for strut housing bolts.
Some sort of torque bar or pipe for hard to get off bolts. A pry bar to pry the tranny away from the engine. I'd also bring 12 and 14mm wrenches. Screwdrivers and something to cut with (knife/clipper).
A jack to lower the tranny onto and help in removal.
Put all tools in 1 bag. Carry the jack in. Find a wheel barrow @ the yard or bring one. Bring a friend?

I would leave the CV joint in the transmission and just remove the C-clip holding the CV joint together and remove the trans.
Besides moving in the car under power or rolling down a hill, the only one u can test it is run the gears through with the shift yoke. (The part the shifter rod attaches from the lever in the cabin)

interesting idea! would this still limit space needed to pull the transmission?

That idea really only works on the driver's side. The pass side would be a bit more cumbersome and easier to remove the bracket attached to the engine. They are fairly easy to reach anyway but one could still disassemble the joint on the far side out (towards out wheel) of the carrier bearing and remove the CV joint the same way to leave both axles in the trans half. Once all the shifter parts are out of the way, I do not see what would stop further dropping of the transmission. Might have to get a little cockeyed depending on clearance I guess.

Tranny has to come quite a ways towards the driver's side of the car before dropping is what I'm worried about. Also, it could be so far to the driver's side that the axle piece sticking out of either ends may end up getting in the way of the tranny coming out. idk if I'd want to experiment w/this out at the junk yard..I think I'd still completely remove both axles..at least the driver's side.
