Thread: New clutch, need to resurface flywheel again?

Yea stage 4 competition clutch is done, pulled it apart today and suprisingly both surfaces are smooth with no dark heat spots. I had it resurfaced last time, should i this time around too?

Post a pic of the face of the flywheel.

If it is smooth and not grooved go ahead and just scuff it with some sandpaper to take the glaze off.

I always do it because chatter really sucks and so does pulling it back apart to resurface it anyway. Also, the tiny step is important for proper adjustment. Not saying you wouldn't be fine, it would just be annoying to find out you should have done it later.

any time you change the clutch disk the flywheel should be resurfaced.

After nearly 3 years using this stage 4 unsprung clutch i am really surprised in the shape these are in.... its hard to tell but the surface is really smooth where the disk had contact. I am curious, how many times can it be resurfaced? Is there a certain spec it had to be within?

Everyone has their own method. If you get it turned, make sure the shop pulls the alignment pins and does the entire face or you will have release point issues. Otherwise, I would just hit it with some sand paper in an opposite rotation scuff. Kinda like you will see on new brake rotors.

I was curious about issues leaving the pins in if i had it turned or installing the clutch as is since it will sit a hair lower than the rest of the surface..I think i will just get it turned to be on the safe side... Nonetheless very impressed with the wear after all this time with a somewhat harsh clutch.

I let a shop slip that by me once and I could never get the clutxh to release where I wanted it. As little as they take off, it makes a huge difference.
