Oil loss, consumption, burning possibly
i have an sr20ve in my b14 and iv always seen a bit of oil disappear between oil changes. before it was 1+ quart but i detected a leak from the oil filter housing grommets so replaced those and now i have no leaks whatsoever anywhere on the engine, but i still see about 1/2 a quart or so vanish after 2-3k miles. PCV valve is new too. engine runs great, no blue smoke at all from exhaust. i run royal purple 10w-30 and always have run RP since i installed the motor so i cant compare it to other oils. i did notice a slight decrease when i went from 5w-30 to 10w-30. wondering if it just something that happens with royal purple?

not running o2 sensor right now due to wiring problems so it does run about 12.0 to 1 a/f ratio cruising town and 12.8-14.0 to 1 light loads but i doubt that has anything to do with it. it probably sees above 4-5k rpm once a day unless im out with friends messing around, not often tho. i know ve=vvl section but im looking for input from all sr owners. thanks for any help!

Perform a compression and/or leakdown test.

i've read that RP is a great bleeder for old or less than perfect seals. couldn't hurt to try some say 10w30/40 mobil 1 or similar to compare.

Premature breakdown.. A lot of people are complaining about it being burned faster as well, just like you. I've heard nothing but bad stuff about it and even saw how shitty it ran in my friends 05 elantra turbo

Valvoline MAXLife and Castrol EDGE, Rotella T6 are some of the more desired, generally favored, and of the major brands that won't destroy your wallet like a quart of Amsoil will.
