Battery Relocation Question
Would 4 gauge wire be to small to use? I have some left over from the previous owner(amps and sub lol) and there is plenty to run to the trunk. Its 4 gauge speaker wire with a 100a fuse on the wire. I went by the stereo shop today and asked how much 0gauge wire was and he was going to give it to me for $100.

I think there is a write up about this one the 'other' forum, just a sec....

And a nice little quote from chriscar himself...

From that I'd say you'd probably be pushing it.

I had to postpone it because I realized I didn't have battery terminal connector for the wire. lol

What about Welders Wire? Anyone use that? And where would I get it other then the obvious.

4 gauge is fine, when starting you are drawing maybe 60A's, when running you are no where near that, maybe around 20-30 depending on what accessories that are on. That rating is also continuous, peak is probably double that.

Welding wire will work, but they are sized differently that car audio wire. Welding wire is actual AWG size while audio wire is bigger. So 4 gauge in audio wire is about 2/0 in welding and 1/0 in audio wire is about 4/0 in welding wire. Check this link out, take the diameter of your wire and see what it compares to. As long as you fuse it correctly you should be fine.

I got my 0g wire at Advance Auto for $3 a foot. I used 10 feet I think.

The benefit of welders wire is that it uses very fine stranded wire which makes it more flexible than the average battery cable.
