Any ideas on WTF happened? CM FX500
Well was driving the other day, 5th gear, 45mph, downhill coasting, heard a snap and then free rev. Pulled my transmission tonight and found this inside.

B13 w/ 6spd conversion
Clutchmasters FX500 unsprung

Seen this happen quite a few times before with unsprung clutches. Either the input shaft will shear clean or what happened in the pics. The constant shock will eventually cause this type of damage overtime, I know alot of folks dd their cars with unsprung disks but eventually this will happen. Sucks.
From the pics it looks like the rivets that hold it in place either strecthed out and caused the center section to slowly separate everytime clutch was engaged, the hole are badly worn on one side. Kinda seems premature though.

Check if you had both alignment dowels in the box/block, if you only have one (or none) the holes for the bolts are a sloppy fit and the driveshaft will be off center to the flywheel, this will definatly kill the center like it has.

What about bell housing to trans?

Either the rivets were *really* done wrong or there is a misalignment between input and flywheel.

It's probably a long shot, but it's possible the lack of a harmonic damper made things worse. Do you have a harmonic damper?
