Thread: Round 2 for Storm88000 :( bizarre issues

Ok, so I put the new alternator in the 97 SE-R, and had a friend help me with the fusebox swap (from the earlier "Bizarre issue for Storm88000) - everything is fine now, car runs perfect, except now I have to tighten the clutch cable nearly ALL the way to get the car into 1st gear and sometimes 2nd, while driving and coming to a stop. If I come to a stop sign after a while of driving, and want to get into 1st gear, I have to shut the motor off, put it in first, then restart the car

The clutch itself is NOT slipping at higher revs, I'm just having issues with getting into gear. When the motor is off, it goes into every gear freely.

The clutch is about 14 months old. The clutch cable is about 1 month old.

One thing I thought of was that the clutch arm needed to be adjusted. So I have the clutch arm pulled back a bit towards the firewall. I could also try pulling it the other way. I am just being ghetto and using a ziptie to pull it, so it can easily be reversed.

EDIT: I think I figured it out. I have a B13 clutch cable in a B14.

OEM or aftermarket clutch line?? Aftermarket have been known to fail much sooner than the OEM

Aftermarket. It's a Exedy stage 1. Basically OEM but a little stronger. I guess it COULD be the clutch itself, but it doesn't ever slip!! I took it to 7700rpms in all 3 gears just now and it was fine all the way to redline, it's just the shifting becomes progressively more difficult as you drive the vehicle and then it won't go into first, and to get into 2nd, I have to double clutch. I can drive in 4th and 5th gear for an hour on the highway and have no problems, at varying rpms and speeds, but once I get off and want to get into 1st gear it gets difficult.

I had the same issue with my exedy. I did not like it. Are you using an extender on the clutch arm? Is the cable an OEM or aftermarket? Many people have had bad luck with aftermarket cables. Get a copper extender and that should solve the issue.

When i had to shut the car off to get it in gear i popped the springs on the clutch disk...

do this.....buy a backup clutch cable before it snaps....

also should use the Valvoline 75w140 tranny caramel

The clutch cable is OEM from Greg. But I just had an AH HA! moment. The clutch cable giving me problems now in my B14 is for the B13. I just called Greg and he confirmed that indeed I ordered a B13 clutch cable from him, and somehow, I forgot they are different. It makes sense. I had to always LOOSEN the little wheel with the old clutch cable until I went too far, it came apart and parts fell all over the place, in a parking lot in the rain, and I just said F it and put in this one I had.

And now, its the opposite, I have to continually tighten it to get anywhere. Right now, I just drove around the block, and from a dead stop, only 3rd gear worked and 2nd gear sometimes. 1st gear and reverse are tough. When driving 4th and 5th are fine.

Yikes, that's scary. I wont be doing that anymore. I have 2 other cars so I don't need to drive it so Ill wait to see if the correct clutch cable fixes the issue. and in the meantime, if anyone can direct me to that tranny extender ....?

If you adjust it too much it will do this.. Try adjusting it all the way out till its loose then going from there
