Lets talk Gear oil
Hey guys,

I'm sure it's been discussed before it I can't find anything definitive.

What oil do u prefer for a 16ve tranny with vlsd? Anything that assists these trannys on high rpm gear changes? I've heard good things about Motul Gear 300. How does it stack up to Redline MT90 with some shockproof?

I really like the pennzoil syncromesh, gear shifts are smooth and no high rpm lockout so far, 8500rpm

I used 90-140 before when i was on boost, once really warmed it was good. But for n/a use i much prefer the syncromesh.

I've gone through a bunch of threads including the ones you posted up, but there doesn't seem to be much mention of Motul gear 300. I'm trying to figure out if our fwd transmissions like it or not. Again, it's for n/a. There's a bunch of recommendations for boosted applications but that's too thick for n/a.

i've always heard thats a good brand, and from some searching i find its GL4/GL5 soo it should atleast work..

however its very expensive!

i've got valvoline white bottle stuff (75w90 and 85w140) in Several vehicles, all so far are running great.

Thanks man. Pennzoil isn't sold over here unfortunately.

Redline is only sold through one distributor at $25/quart.

Castrol Bot130 is another full synthetic option. About $12/quart. Then there's royal purple and Motul funny enough at $18.

Liquid Molly or lubri Molly. And then regular mineral gear oils.

The thicker oil is crap lol I put the 85 140 in my tranny and when the transmission was cold, it would make the car go forward when I wasn't even in gear lol PLUS I broke 3rd about 3 weeks ago with it =\
