Happy 20th Buddy!
I certainly have given my share of long, rambling posts and soapbox rants, forgive me if this is yet another one......

HAPPY 20TH ANNIVERSARY Twenty years ago on 07/16/93 I started a 20 year relationship with a certain Vail White 1993 Nissan Sentra SE-R. This came after a tumultuous fling with an Aztec Red that lasted less than a month, and ended in a near incarceration and less than ideal confidence in my choice for a new vehicle.(#9009 check your vin's, I have your window sticker, and info you that may or may not care to know). But I digress....

My desire to be an amateur sports car superstar, and a guy name Mark Chiles led me to my local Nissan dealer. I wanted something I could afford, something I could drive every day, and something that could win right out of the box. I narrowed it down to the NX2000 and the Sentra SE-R for the affor mentioned reasons. In the end I decided on the Sentra because of that sleeper quality it had, and the really good seats that the NX didn't have. Plus, that's what Mark drove....and damn if he wasn't winning everything!

Flash forward...I raced for 4-5 years(O.K. AutoX'd, but it was racing to me) with much success, winning the DS class easily each year locally. But eventually I tired of racing for 3 1/2 minutes, and picking up cones for 3 1/2 hrs. with a massive hangover each Sunday. So my racing dreams faded, the reality of life took over, but this car was really starting to grow on me.....

Being a professional firefighter, I took a lot of shit for driving this little white economy car over the years. This was long before gas was even close to $2 a gallon,(remember those days) life was good, and most every FF drove some jacked up 4WD something or other...except me. But with my Dunlop Sport snows, I got to work every day on time, just like they did, no matter what the weather, and I had fun doing it!

Over the years I guess I've bought quite a few cars. Some stayed, some left, but the SE-R somehow was a constant. Sure, it lost it's garage space, but it never complained, never left me stranded, and never failed to bring a smile to my face with a 7500rpm shift, all the while sipping gas at 30+mpg. Out of all the cars I've owned over the years, who would have thought that this would be the one that would still be with me after 20 years? No, it's not the fastest, it's not the most comfortable, it may not be the best looking. BUT, it's quick, it's damn fun, those seats are still my favorites, it's dead f****** reliable, and there is no place I would rather be after a long day.

To repeat what I said in an earlier post, "it's been a loyal friend, a trusted companion, and I proposed to my wife of 18 years in it". This car has been a integral part of more fun, some illegal, some "I may not be proud of but lived to tell about it" stories than any car I've owned. What more can I say.....THANK YOU BUDDY! Here's to 20 more!

At this time of celebration, I would also like to thank the members of this forum who helped me remember why I bought this car in the first place, and made me realize that maybe the time just wasn't quite right to part ways with my SE-R. I guess I needed a kick in the ass, and you guys gave it to me. That being said, if and when I decide the time is right to sell my friend, I have a choice of 8,329 individuals that I have total confidence in owning and appreciating this car as I have for the last 20 years. Thank you!

Happy birthday to your mechanical companion. That's one fine clean classic.

Great post! Taking part of the day and going for a nice long drive may be in order.
