
Forgot to mention, if the insulator on the positive stud of the alt is intact then the voltage regulator in the alt may have shit the bed. If the insulator looks good and the positive cable is not in contact with the alt body pull the alt and have it tested.
Also suspect is your A/C compressor. It was on, and if it is beginning to seize up it could cause a major amperage draw. Pull the belt and try spinning the pulley. Does it spin freely or does it feel like it's binding up?
