take the spindle out with the axle and take it to a machine shop and have them press it out.

Wouldn't it be hard trying to get the ball joint off? I mean you could pop off the tie rod and remove the complete control arm and bring it to a machine shop. Use some heat and slam it with a sledge with the axle nut on it. You can also try an air hammer.

No access to air tools at my condo. also the new axle didnt come with a new nut so I decided to not hammer on it with the nut and just sacrificed the threads to the car gods

you can get it off the ball joint without taking the axle out...

I did a jammed CV on a hub on a Subaru once by removing whole hub, bolting a wheel on and putting over a hole (a rubbish bin in my case), so the shaft is vertical, then soak in your fav lubricant, and smash with BFH (big something hammer). The extra weight of the wheel gives the hub mass to counteract the blow of the hammer, so more force goes into the axle/cv, also gravity helps being vertical.
