Thread: Axle stuck in hub....frustrated

So the previous owner thought it would be cool to not install anti seize in the axle splines and now Im stuck with a frozen passenger side axle in the hub.

Ive been letting it soak with Liquid Wrench and also an ATF/acetone mix and pounded it with a 5 lb sledge but no luck. I also rented a FWD hub puller DESIGNED to push axles out and I almost stripped the threads on it.

Ive done plenty of axles but have never had this much of a problem before. Should I just go buy a big ass sledge and go to town on it?

are all motor mounts in ? you took the two bolts out of the strut ?

I left the struts bolted up as well as the motor mounts. Normally when I do axles I can just tap them out a bit then I loosen the strut to pull the spindle away and pop the end off.

I would undo the two bolts holding the hub to the strut and try to man handle it out.. if you have a replacement axle and nut u can screw the old nut on the old axle until their flush with each other and tap it with a hammer but you may ruin the threads on the axle.

These are the two strut bolts that need to come out..

Ive never had to do that just to break them from the hub but you do to pull it out

edit: pulled the hub out and hammered it that way as well with no luck. Headed to HF to get a BFH now

I would give it a try..

I would take the whole knuckle assemble with axle out and use a press and press it out...

Torch it....

PB Blaster > Liquid Wrench
