Would the 1.6 b14 driver side axle fit the 2.0. I understand there's a 1/2in difference but the spline count is the same. Lets say i successfully reduce the 1/2in on the 1.6 to match the 2.0 would that work?

no, how would you go about reducing the length? just buy an axle, they are 50 bucks at autozone with Lifetime warranty.

Not going to happen. I just went through about a dozen c/v shafts before I finally got the correct ones. Be sure to match up the length exactly - it is VERY important unless you have a spindle drop suspension which is an entirely different conversation.
