I have been delayed time and time again with military obligations and job transitions. Now I am fighting my car to keep it going until I can get a decent shell. Rust is defeating a lot of us and it is hard to find shells these days.

As for things not selling, well people don't seem to realize that even though they put 8 grand into a nissan sentra, it is a nissan sentra and isnt worth 10 grand. A part you paid 1200 dollars for and put 80 thousand miles on does not always mean its worth 700 dollars. Sure you will find stupid people to buy them here and there but people need to start being real and understanding depreciation and loss on used goods. Times are tough for a lot of folks and money is not going to be spent like it used to. I hardly think the community is dying, but it certainly has slowed due to such reasons.

It's funny that you use CALUM as an example just a few days after the NismoTronicSA comes out which pretty much bricked CALUMs.

I HATE when people use Calum as a measuring stick as to why the community is the way it is, as WE are the reason we do not have Calum! Calum made HARDWARE, not TUNES and ignorant people decided that once he made the board, they DEMANDED he support tunes as well, which is totally unfair and I do not blame Calum ONE BIT for leaving! I would have done the same!

The reason the forum won't be good, is no one ends up listening to the OGs and people with experience and side with people who all they have done is read some internet. OGs get pissed and say "screw you!'

Hard to argue with that...............

Which is why Calum was so Important!

P.S John and Dave have BOTH been rather awesome as far as support, development and such is concerned and I am super glad they developed what they did! Wish this were the case 10 years ago..............

I'm not saying that CALUM wasn't important or anything, of course it was. I'm just commenting on the fact that he uses CALUM as an example of the community not progressing when in fact we just had a huge breakthrough on ECUs.

Couldn't have said it better. This August I will hit 20 years with the B13's. YES 20 !!! Still have the first one I purchased brand new off the lot and will N-E-V-E-R sell it.

The forum(s) along with the internet have changed things so so much. I'd like to think more for the better than anything else. I remember waiting for that new issue of Turbo or Sport Compact Car to come out and see what was the latest mod or improvement. Now, it's just a matter of getting online and you can see what crazy stuff is being done in PR or down in the PI.

Funny thing is, I ran into an old racing friend from 15-18 years ago today. What's changed ??? We both have kids, families, Wives and Ex-Wives. But we still have out original cars. As I work on mine with close friends and family, so does he. Thou it may seems that people have moved on, they have just become more secluded and keep to them selves.

What does the future bring... Wow, lots of great strides and improvement I'm sure. What I am now starting to see is people passing on their SR love to their kids. My daughter is now building engine's with me and already has her eye on one of the the cars in my collection.

The 1990's Nissan's are some of the best ever made and will have a long term following just like the good old 510s.

What was the original question again ??? Oh yeah, how to grow the community. Easy: have lots of sex, make lots of babies, give them all of your SR knowledge, REPEAT.

Anyways... Just my thoughts...

But I think more and more people are realizing, however, that we need to start conserving our cars/parts for the future.

Instead of just parting out a car and chucking the carcass in the crusher, we need to be thinking differently. The more cars we can preserve the better. This is nothing new, by the way. I'm old enough to remember when '69 Z28's, GTO's, BOSS Mustangs, Cuda's etc., went through the same fate. In the low point of those car's lives, they could had for in the $500 range. A lot went to the crusher because people moved on to other things. The true enthusiasts held on to them. I'd say that's about where we are today with the SR20. True enthusiasts! Come to the Convention, you'll see.

I have had many of these thoughts. I have promised myself to keep to two good, rust-free chassis I have and never part them out or let them go to an owner who will.

I rarely have time to post these days, but I have over 10,000 posts on the old forum, IIRC.

Seriously, less crap to sift through.

I have been taking a lot of breaks for school, but the conventions always seem to drag me back in. Since my first one in LA 2004, meeting Mike K, etc, I have been addicted.

I'm pretty sure Calum had a LOT of influence on that

You don't need school... They just teach you math and science there.

You should be basing everything off of the star alignment and dew on the grass.
