Great idea IMO, its about time. I barely drive right now, back home I barely drove more than 100 miles a day. Not a bad concept IMO. Charging the batteries in 2 hours too or swapping them at the facility.

i like the idea. i only drive 6 miles to work every day, so this would be great. i would be interested to see any of honda and toyota's offerings as well. im all for an all electric car as long as its not tiny like a smart car or the fortwo.

I'm not entirely convinced on the idea of electric cars. If everyone had one, the demand on electiricy to recharge the batteries will in itself increase the demand of coal and fossil fuels used to generate electricity.

If the majority of electircity supply can come from a source other than fossil fuels then things will look better for the future.

^that is a good point but as things are now it is the absolute best option we have now. Once the coal runs out we will have to start doing more hydro electric, solar power, wind power and even nuclear power. (just imagine every house with solar panels instead of plain old roof tiles that will be our future once people start using their heads). There will be lost jobs from all of the mechanics/ auto builders/ replacement parts builders (electric cars don't break down, no moving parts nothing goes bad). And there will be a possibility of a very large strain on the existing electrical companies power line systems as they may not be capable of supporting twice or more increase in power usage.

I used to absolutely hate the idea of electric for the principle of merely offsetting fossil fuel use.

But it does seem now that there are legitimately heavy ambitions in solar, wind, and nuclear, and that R&D spent in those techs might be better spent than R&D in complex drilling.

You guys need to take into consideration that not everyone will benefit or own electric vehicles so the extra consumption wont be enough to cause a great difference in consumption. How many people own hybrids? Not many.

I liked this idea even back in the GM EV1 days. Its about time it makes its way back. They will be costly though...

who cares about costly for them? i mean seriously, the hippies will be happy, and we will be that much further from being completley dependant on forgien oil. im pretty sure this will disrupt things among the middle east as well. see the first cost of the car be a little more expensive, but if the car recharges on braking and other things, it will in the end be cheaper.

i personally drive less than 3 miles to get to work. i'd def buy one. i hope they put it into a body like the versa hatch.

3 miles? You should be riding a bike to work.

europe lives heavily off water and wind generated electricity. France is entirely off nuclear power. The USA has GOT to look toward nuclear power as a viable source of electricity.
