Thread: My B13 almost killed me today.

I blame NJ rust!

Had the the same thing happen in my Neon. It's a known issue on those cars.

I really think any car that's been daily driven in the NE for any length of time should have all of the hardlines looked at really closely. Sudden brake failure is really scary. At highway speeds the parking brake is frickin useless, as well..

Agreed I lucked out could of been a disaster if I was approaching a stopped car at speed.

You better thank God. could have turned out much worse. Good luck on repairing it.

Heres what it looked like when I finally got under the car.



RED = Brake Lines

Inner line towards the frame is the one that rotted but the rest of the line looks perfect.
Outer line looks like it should be fixed as well.

What are the other 3 large lines with the GREEN ARROWS ?
Im assuming 1 is fuel or maybe 2 are fuel I dunno. 2 of those have surface rust but dont look too bad, I have to remove that
plastic bracket to get a closer look.

Would it be better to just remove the little piece of rust and splice in a new line or replace the whole thing? Of course the whole thing
would be nicer but not sure what the price and time it would take to do since they run from the firewall ( limited space ) bay to the
back of the car.

The lines besides this one spot look to be perfect.

you can splice lines if your hard up for cash and have the tools and skills, chances are the lines will blow out some where elese. i had this happen to me when i had a b13 i assume it happens to any car that gets salty though. just save your self a repeat fix, get new lines.

The Green ones are Fuel and fuel return to the tank.

Do you wan to do it once and not have to worry about it for years or constantly have it on the back of your mind that it could fail at any time.

Same thing goes for Steel Braided Fuel Lines - After having my 97 sit for, well, too long, when I went to prime the fuel system to start it back up I found that the hoses had failed 100%. Come to find out that it is suggested that Steel Braided Fuel Pressure hoses be replaced every 12-24 months.

Oh well, we learn something knew every day.

Ok guess ill have to hit up Greg V, Just looks like its going to be a huge PITA to get to the firewall dist block etc. What would a place charge to install you guys think?
I know were all big ( DIY'rs ) but this is not fun or rewarding work ( replacing brake lines ) my free time is limited if its under $200 id rather pay someone than waste
a nice day doing this.

Looks like ill be getting a quote on lines from Gregv, Cash isnt the issue just the time/labor involved in a boring job lol.

Got my new lines in from the dealer today, Hopefully these are not too much of a PITA to install.

Here I go thinking these were going to be expensive... $25 each, cheap as hell just had to order them.
Now all my brake lines are new as I just did a NON ABS Conversion in the last year.
