Thread: Quiafe or Nismo LSD?

Which is better?

Quiafe = helical.
Nismo = mechanical (clutch)

Quiafe = No maintenance
Nismo = Clutch & oil maintenance

Quiafe = Helical = smoother engagemeny. More streetable.
Nismo = Harsher engagement, but possibly better 1/4 mile times than quiafe?

What's your view on this?

Quaife would be the ****.... if you could get one. last time I checked, they were pretty much impossible to get.

Nismo has no streetability problems as far as i'm concerned unless you use the wrong oil that will make it clunk.

Nismo has no longjevity issues that i can see SO FAR.... i've done over 60,000k's on mine including more than 20 track days, stop start draily traffic and city turns/parking. It was recently pulled down and inspected with almost ZERO wear on the clutch plates.

The nismo LSD will increase steering weight and "return to centre" speed of the steering.

Do not use shockproof oil with the Nismo LSD. Use something with friction modifier in it. I have used Motul FF LSD and Neo Platinum oil in my gearbox, both offer smooth slow speed turns and no "harsh" engagement that is seen with the shockproof (or other oils that lack friction modifiers). The most noise i get is a slow speed turn with medium load (not enough to get it to lock) and it will "groan" a little bit.

Quaife FTW. Really expensive though??

In order to buy a new quaife you would need a minimum order of either 10 or 20 iirc.

and Nismo units are getting harder and harder to find. Not being made from my understanding. So any units would be ones on shelf. Or so says someone that works in parts that is a sr guy

I can get a quaife right now for about the equivalent of a non-vlsd nismo lsd. So just wondering which one I should get.

I'm sure both are kick-a$$ but just wanna make sure I get the best one, since they are both $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
