Thread: Timing pulley has only 2 marks

So about 3 years ago I had my crank pulley seperating. I didnt have access to work on car, no garage in the winter, so I opted to have a mechanic take care of it. Anyway, not sure where the new crank pulley was bought so I dont know the brand.

Fast forward to now, I checked timing today. Doing a cam swap this weekend. I noticed that the pulley only has 2 white marks on it and another mark to the far left, I would assume TDC. But where are all the other marks in 5 degree increments and the far right one for 20degrees??

Anybody ever come across this with their timing pulley?? I am for right now assuming that the timing needs to be inbetween those 2 white marks, and it never had the other marks on it. Currently sitting at the first white mark.

BTW this is on my b14 se-r if that helps in any way. Any light on this matter would be great.

Nobody knows why I only have these 2 marks on my timing pulley??? Car runs great and have no problems, would just be nice to know exactly what the 2 timing marks represent as in degrees timing. I will just make sure it is inbetween these 2 white marks then from now on.

the pulley should go -5, 0 , 5, 10, 15, 20. if it only has 5 marks it starts at zero ands at 20.

Yea, but this one has 3 marks. 2 painted white. Not really sure. I didnt install the new crank pulley.

only zero should be painted. it has more than three marks the others are just dirty or worn. I have seen multiple pulleys that some marks were so dirty and worn they could not be seen until the pulley was removed and cleaned. you can always verify tdc on cylinder 1 by removing the dist cap and sticking a long screw driver down the spark plug hole. when the motor is rotated and the screw driver reaches its highest point before moving down the rotor will be pointing where the number 1 contact will be on the dist cap.

That is how I verified the first non painted mark is TDC. Then 7/8" away is the first painted white mark, then 5/16" away from that is the next white mark.

Trust me, I know they could be worn out, I just had to paint the marks on my kids honda b4 being able to time that car, but it doesnt have the -5 degree mark then.

This pulley only has 3 marks for sure. It was a brand new pulley a couple years back. Prob an aftermarket, napa, advance one at that. Like I said I let a mechanic do it as I didnt have a garage at the time and was in winter.

Sorry to bring back from the dead but i have the same issue and im not sure exactly what the marks mean i got the pulley new from the dealer
