Hahaha no its fairly cheap actually.. I get it at the local part store. The stuff I run is only a snythetic blend but it works great so far

K quick update, so we put a 2.9 in there, and while the motor runs certainly MUCH quieter, the sound is still there. So we are going to the next size, 3.0, tomorrow. That should do it.

car is up and running perfect. noise is gone. it turned out to be a shim not seating in a retainer. runs great now. after some more break in period and another oil change ill take it up to higher RPMs

i take mine to 7800... well atleast in 1st, maybe 2nd lol. with n1's 8500.. theres a threads somewhere about it

a totally stock VE? I wouldn't go past like 7500

heres the thing tho, on stock ecu's you dont even get to 7500, its like 7250 and it starts cutting injectors.. so i set mine to 7800 and i'll be damned if its not smack dab at 7450 lol (hard cut)
