96 200SX Ramdom Starting problem.
I have a 96 200SX Se-r with Starting problem. The car will randomly not Start when turning the key. If i let it sit and try again it starts. Other time it starts up fine. I get no click at all from the starter, all the dash light turn on. Moved around clutch relays no good. If i push start the car it starts up and runs. I replaced the Battery and the Ignition switch. Cleaned the battery cables and ground on engine block. Have not yet removed or looked at the starter. Car has OEM alarm system. Any help or tips on when to do next.

5/1/2013 Update: Replaced the starter about 1 week ago. Problem solved starts every time.

make sure the rubber bumper on the clutch pedal is touching the clutch switch. You can test this by removing the connector from the switch and using a paper clip to complete the circuit. if the car starts every time after doing this the clutch interlock switch is going bad or the clutch pedal is not making good contact. I just fixed this same problem on a friends car. he replaced two starters before he brought me the car so I could look at it.

yeah, what cortrim said. rupper bushing falls off most cars. this may be the issue. more likely than a starter.

I'll try the clutch switch first because is cheaper. i did push it in by hand and that did nothing. I'll try jumping the wires next time it does it. I'll keep you guys updated as I troubleshoot this and find whats wrong.

you can also test the starter directly with a starter trigger. it connects from the battery to the starter solenoid. If you don't have one pull the starter and test it out side the car connected to a battery. it is possible the nats system is causing a issue. i would verify the start motor first.
