Concerned with ACL Race main bearing clearance.
Yes, red plastigage exists. Yes I read it right. No I did not read the ACL spec sheet right, and apparently this make unable to work on a engine. Yes I know how to read a vernier micrometer. Yes everything was in spec. Yes the plastigage was giveing me a .006 reasing. Yes I solved the issue.

mic the journals and bore ?
.004mm / .0002"? as per ACL (corrected)
OEM range .004mm - .022mm (.0002" - .0009") (corrected)

What's the problem ? do you know how to read spec sheets ? If you do not understand how to read a spec sheet or FSM, or even how to mic a journal or read a bore gauge, you should not be assembling a motor.

The ACL race std clearance should be .0014"-.0006"

If you are getting .006", something is wrong.

I remember when I researched trying to use plastigauge to measure bearing clearances on our engines. The accuracy/resolution of plastigauge is just barely above the accuracy needed for our factory specs. That means you could be in spec, or out of spec, and the plastigauge wouldn't ever be able to tell you.

I deemed the idea a non-starter.


Maybe plastigauge has gotten better since then?

Sounds like you could have grabbed the wrong color or have wrong expectations for measurement accuracy.

When you starting measuring <0.001" lots of mistakes start happening. If each measurement with the micrometers has a +/-0.0005" error (which happens) you already can't trust your measurements.

As you can see, the spec is .014-.0006. So .006 is within spec. I have already verified this with ACL.

Those specs are for the basic ACL's. Search this part number 5m2964h, and you will see the specs for the bearings. And criticism is cool and all, but be chill homie, it is just a question.
