Thread: Before and after photos. (Head gasket)

Nice. How are you guys installing the studs? I have never seen a stud snap. Hopefully all checks out alright.

Installed per FSM, except when this one started going in, it began to feel funny right away. Dipped in a little oil etc. The thing is, the original head gasket appears to have failed right at this spot, and its kind of odd that we broke a stud there too. Almost like something was up with the hole and that eventually caused the original problem. So the machine shop cleaned and checked alignment of holes, all good, we'll see how it goes this week/weekend.

Started it up today. Let it idle for a few minutes then gave it a little gas. F'in things ROARS now. It appears, at least in sound, that the port and polishing, valve job, seemed to help.

I have to take it easy because there's still some coolant in the oil, even though we just changed it.

Going to drive it for the first time tomorrow and change the oil after about 2 miles.

Sure thing. Changing the oil tomorrow again, then taking it easy for a hundred miles or so. Then changing oil again (to remove any kind of shavings or whatever)

Did you have any issues putting it all back together?

Oh where to do I start, lol. One of the new head studs felt funny when replacing and it snapped. Had to remove everything and take it back to the machine shop and get the holes cleaned and chased and stuff. Some other crap. Battery died from sitting so long. Still needs another oil change (looked like chocolate milk on the dipstick) etc.

thankfully at this point, nothing major. just a buncha little things. the car has been down for well over a month.

What did you use to clean up the block with? It looks really clean in your "after" pic. I'm trying to clean mine up right now, but not wanting to use anything too abrasive.
