Looking good!!!! I almost don't want to drive it. I mean I do but, well you know what I mean.

Greg @ G-Spec comes thru again with the new VE HG!!!! (the original went bye bye a few weeks ago). This is the new gasket:



I also got new OEM Nissan head studs for $4.42 each.

Everything should be back together in about a week. Since this is the metal VE gasket the machine shop resurfaced and port & polished the head. Will be going back to the same dyno the car made 206whp probably in May or something, after break in time/enough mileage and another oil change to get rid of any shavings. I'd be thrilled if it made 5-10 more whp.

Just in time for SCCA Solo events for the spring/summer. When something goes wrong with cars, you always have a chance to turn it around and make something better out of it. If you can afford it of course.

I'll tell ya, it's a lot of fun to drive. And quite a sleeper (except for the loud exhaust). The car itself isn't lowered all that much, has 15" black slipstream wheels, and no spoiler. Takes a lot of people by surprise.

And also, I know it's been discussed here before, but I got 2 new radiator coolant fans from a junkyard and hooked them up to a switch inside the cabin, so in case (for whatever unknown reason, a short or whatever, who knows) the ECU doesn't activate them, I can by hitting this switch:

Well a new head stud was broken putting it back yesterday. Damnit! I knew I should have gotten a few extra when I ordered. Now everything delayed a few days because I have to order a new one from Nissan. They are only $5 bucks each so I'm going to get 2 just in case.

how did it snap?

That's pretty hard to snap. Massive torque applied. Did you dip them in oil before installing?

We had already done 4 and then the 5th one went. It didn't feel right from the start. The broken stud also happens to be where the head gasket failed, so I'm not taking any chances and having it looked at and cleaned if necessary at the machine shop, but it means I have to move more parts around and more time. No idea if the bolt breaking at the same spot is a coincidence or related to the gasket failing.
