O/D light blinks & no 1st gear A/T?
So i go to the store for some candy and i notice when i come back out that the O/D light is blinking & it feels as though it's starting out in 2nd gear WTF??

I go to accelerate and it moves very slow.

It's an A/T 2000 P11 with 137,000 miles on it. I had replaced approx. 4 qts of fresh fluid a few thousand miles ago & resealed the tranny pan.

It had a smoother shift from 1-2 and today it started to act up.
So would another fluid change help? OR should i start looking for another transmission ( so i have read Nissan tranny's are junk ) FTL?

TIA

get a scanner on it and see what trans codes it has, before putting a new trans in it.

Would a generic code reader pull the codes from the TCM? Or is it only Consult specific?

There is a method in the FSM on how to pull tranny codes. Look it up. Its like put it in o/d drive and back and forth for a bit.

But i would probably bet the valve body is clogged. the rule of thumb for tranny fluid is if you've never changed it, dont. With that many miles on it, and if you weren't changing it frequently before.... you likely shook something loose and it got clogged somewhere. Hopefully not the cooling lines and it over heated the bands...

likely will require a rebuild. but pull out the fsm and get the method of pulling codes

Well, i looked in the FSM ( thanks PhatG! ) And one of the symptoms it says for the o/d light to blink would be low battery voltage.

It makes perfect sense! My battery had been giving me some probs. i'm onna change it and see what happens.

As far as changing the fluid, the 1st time i changed it i had to reseal the tranny pan because of leakage, i had no choice , when i initially changed it, the fluid still looked red, like cherry juice or something, so the previous owner had to have changed it.

I bought it off some hoity toity chick who supposedly took care of it and kept the maintenance up to date, but who knows. We'll see what happens.
