Thread: Whining 3rd gear?

I broke my old 3rd gear in Oct, and my car has sat till now. I decided to do the mfactory final drive while it was apart. I sent the main stack to an official mfactory installer to have it all done. I just now got it all back together and everything is fine, EXCEPT 3rd gear whines like a mfer. The replacement gears came from a known good tranny, so I'm wondering what is making it whine. Any help is appreciated, I was hoping I was through with it for now.

Both 3rd gears came from the same transmission? Mismatched gear sets can have different wear patterns which can cause whine. Misaligned gears will also cause the noise. If the gears weren't pressed on and checked for alignment with feeler gauges you will get that problem. A little bit of whine is probably nothing to worry about. A lot of whine isn't good.

Seems like ALOT of whine to me. Both stacks came from the same trans so yeah, wear would be the same. I sent the guy that did the main stack for me a message but haven't heard back.
