Thread: EGR Pipe Removal Suggestions

I heard break fluid is really good at breaking stuff down.

I've never tried to take that off before but if the above wrenches fail try it with a plumbers wrench those things are pretty massive.

The plumbers wrench is a great idea except for the fact that there isn't much room to fit one in there. If you decide to take it off at the EGR valve and take the manifold off with it still attached you might be able to use the plumbers wrench. But I would just keep spraying it with PB every couple hours or with that stuff ben recommended.

If your doing a header, save the headache and just buy a new pipe, (dealer price is not that bad ! ) Sawsall the old one off ... way less work and all said and done will look way better and be much better for future removal ..... if your not doing a header and need to save the manifold, same thing other than if you get the manifold off and in a vice and are able to get a good socket on the pipe end ( once pipe is cut flush ) it will come off much quicker !!!

I know I'm a bit late to this topic but let me say this, I had a similar situation when removing the stock exhaust manifold, also on my '97 SE-R to install a cheap eBay header.

We used PB plaster

We used vice grips (many different sizes)

We used a torch

We even had my one neighbor, a guy so big and strong, who can probably lift an entire car and could crush my skull with one hand, try to remove it.

It was all a no go.

So in the end, I used vice grips and ripped it apart slowly by turning the metal and cutting into it. Got the stock primary manifold off, got a cheap $8 plug taper from Nissan to go in the empty EGR hole for the new header, and ordered a new EGR pipe. Got it from Nissan a week later for like $40. Kind of sad that it cost $40 for the new EGR tube when the header itself was only like $140.

I'm sure 10 years ago, it would have been much easier, but rust fucking SUCKS

i hear ya, maybe try to take it off on the egr valve side then try to take it out while its off of the car completely or maybe find a shop who might be able to help..... figure a lot of people do Egr delete so maybe someone's got a pipe they didn't throw out yet maybe

If you are still having trouble stick anpiece of black pipe on the end of your crescent.if youre changing to a header I recomend removing it from the back break it free with a 18 and a vise.reinstall your egr pipe on header reasseble to egr and egr to mani.ib reccomend this way becaus a lot of headers egr ports are slightly off and for you. To seal it without your ends secured already is a nightmare

Let me see if i'm reading your reply correctly....yes im changing it to a header so your saying to remove the EGR Valve end first, get it out of the car and use a vice to help me get it out of the manifold then reinstall the pipe first to the header, then to the EGR valve?....I was thinking that might be the best bet if I cant find someone who might have a spare laying around (meaning if i find one, ill just take it out valve side and leave it in the manifold and use the spare one with the header).

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by sticking a piece of black pipe on the end of my crescent though?

came out with no effort from a car with 120k.
