EGR Pipe Removal Suggestions
Ok so i'm removing the stock exhaust manifold on my 97 200sx. I got everything disassembled fine except the EGR Pipe that goes from the side of the exhaust mani back to the EGR Valve. The damn nut wont turn, im sure it hasnt been touched since 97 lol. I tried torching/heating it up and loaded it with PB Blaster....anyone have any ideas besides taking it off from the back? Mainly becuz ill prob have the same issue and I still need to get that pipe out of there to put it on the header (to pass emissions).

Also, anyone know where I might be able to pic up a new one should it come down to a situation where I have to damage the pipe to remove it?

I would try vise grips if you can. Mine came off pretty easy on my parts car. I'm pretty sure I have one laying around if you do have to hack it off but its from a 93. Not sure if it will work but I don't see y not.

Hrm, vice grips. I always try to avoid using them as they usually end up stripping it worse. Theres not much room to get a really good grip with a big pair. I did try them once but they seem to strip as I assumed they would. Figure everything else comes off without issues then is bastard plug.....

Do you happen to have a picture of the pipe you could show me? I was thinking maybe cutting the pipe, finding a new one and cutting the end off so I could put it in the new header. I'd then just connect the orignal pipe to the new end in the header with a hose and some clamps and call it a day? I had a GA back in the day that when they replaced the Exhaust Manifold/CAT (one piece) that what they ended up doing. Seemed to work fine. Just get like a nice thick piece of hose that wont metal or anything lol.

If I do this hose connector idea, then it doesnt matter if the hose is right, just as long as the end will fit in the header

That might work. You will probably have to change that hose piece every once in a while. But I'll go and see if I can find that piece to take a pic for you tomorrow.

If the heat didn't work, just keep soaking it in PB Blaster (or get this stuff, it is the best stuff I've found for this type of work) and work it with a large adjustable wrench like rojeda1217 said. I did have to use large vise grips to get mine off. It was a last resort. I've never had to use them before or since. =/

I have that liquid wrench stuff in a spray can like PB Blaster, is that bottle any different? I've always heard PB Blaster was better but guess it cant hurt. I have an average sized crescent wrench I was trying, ill use it again after I soak it with PB and LW another couple days (going on 2). To much limited space to get anything real big on there. Doesnt help that nut is pretty thin as well.

Yeah vice grips make me nervous.

Yes, the stuff in that little bottle is COMPLETELY different. Your spray can stuff is a white, foamy lubricant. The stuff in the bottle is a black, penetrating liquid that smells like chocolate/coca cola.

I still use PB Blaster to lubricate threaded stuff if I want to, but for breaking things free I've found this other stuff to be MUCH better. I've heard a mix of ATF and something else is the best penetrating solvent ever tested but I'm too lazy to mix some up. =/
