A neat trick I learned to pinpoint noises is to take a length of hose and use it as a listening device. If you put one end against, say an injector or the valve cover, it will help you pinpoint where the tick is coming from. A length of old garden hose or clear siphon hose works well. If you're an MD, you can just use your stethoscope.

When the noise crops up again, I'm going to try that method. Anybody else have any suggestions?
