auto 1.6 - manual 2.0 swap no crank
Hey guys.

I just finished a 1.6 auto - 2.0 manual swap in a 96 b14 and im getting no crank

I've tried searching for solutions for my problems however the 1.6 auto - 2.0 manual swap doesnt seem very common. All of my electrical seems fine. I have lights on the cluster. I hear the fuel pump, but when i try to start it for the first time, all i hear is the driver side relay click, and no crank. I plugged in the auto shift selector, and put it in neutral and park along with the cable that is still connected somewhere under the dash. I also plugged in the clutch switch to the pedal. I even tried to disconnect the plug and bypass the safety switch by inserting a wire in the pins. I'm confident in the usdm wiring harness that I used and the sensors that I have swapped over which leads me to think that there is something I'm missing. Any auto - manual swap guys around? do you have to do anything special for the auto shift selector? Bypass anything? Some help would be appreciated. Thanks

Anyone have any ideas?

i never figured out what to do, but i just ran a wire from the ignition to the starter switch (the wire on the starter with the plug)

Its funny, i see these posts all the time and i had 0 issues at start up. The best thing to do is find a dash wiring harness from a 2.0. It will plug right in and start right up. Other wise you are chasing wires and trying to figure out what is missing. Also the cluster is usually wired a little differently.

You need to get a manual and trace which wires do which and find out where the harnesses are different.

start with the bacis like engine grounds like the one near the thermostat housing on the one that bolts to the body next to the overflow bottle

the batt cable on the starter also is the starter good? run a wire from the batt to the smaller wire at the starter engine should spinn over you can use jumper cables for this step or speaker wire ecc...

if car turns over then you prob is between the ign switch and the starter
like one of the stupid relays on the pass fender

There should be a neutral safety switch that was on the tranny. From looking through the FSM it should be a Green/Orange wire that needs to be grounded. It should be in an oval Gray, 6 pin connector in pin 2 for the GA. Pg EL-27 if you have the manual.

There is also another option here. There is one of two relays that cause this. Both are called the inhibitor relay, the input from the ignition switch is Black/White and the output to the starter is Black/Yellow. Now with cruise it will be a 6 pin relay and without it will be a 4 pin relay. The relay coil wires are Brown and Green/Orange. Brown is +12v and Green/Orange will go ground when conditions are met. If you ground the Green/Orange it will close the relay all the time. If i were you i would just solder the Black/White and Black/Yellow together and call it a day.

I've read about this on the other forum but wasn't sure it would work. I guess you have just confirmed it. I will go ahead and try this first thing tomorrow morning and update.

Thanks for your help squirlz !!

After going through all of my harnesses removing wire i do not need i have become fairly familiar with the FSM and finding what i need. It doesnt really go from start to finish, it breaks it down in what they think is easy to use. I could be a little more clear at points but it still has all the info, you just have to find it.

Let us know how it goes.

I has the same problem when i went from a 1.6 auto to a 2.0 5 speed swap. to this day i could not figure it out. all i did was get a pop starter one clamp goes to the starter plug and the other on the positive nut on the starter.... ran it through my firewall and now all i do is push a button and my car starts... of course your key has to still go in to prime the motor or what not but it works and now it looks like i got a push start kind of deal lol

i belive it also matters what year b13 your working on too...
