Thread: foul odor with hesitation

Ive been having idling...hesitation. .and a weird foul almost rotton egg smell come from my exhuast. The smell isnt all the time but it happens once and awhile after the car starts to hesitate while driving. The hesitation happens at least 2-3 times everytime I drive the NX. I have no clue whats going on with this car, its also having a hard time staying at idle...just wants to die everytime I come to a light of that sort. I have to give the car gas just to keep it alive. :/ also im getting some crappy gas milage. Anyone have any where to start to look at? Ive never had this issue before on any of my b13s in the past. I would check out the cat. Un bolt it from the car and take it for a drive. If it improves replace the cat.

Could be bad fuel or you might just be running really rich. Check the MAF and the O2 sensor for proper function. If these are malfunctioning, they might cause you to run really rich as the engine is not getting the proper voltage information to keep the air/fuel mixture in the proper range. It might be a clogged cat or malfunctioning cat as well but I would check the MAF/O2/TPS first. Verify that the voltages are within the proper ranges, as per the FSM.

The cat is no more then a month old. It was doing this with the old cat as well minus the funk.

The O2 sensor is brand new too. Ive been using premium for awhile now...but ill run out and get a volt meter and check the volts on tps and maf today.

Injector. One is failing and the others are going rich to compensate.

Is there a way to check if an injector is bad?

I just got under my car and noticed one of the vacuum lines wasnt hooked up to the Vacuum Gallery.

Yeah, get a long screwdriver and put it to the top of the injector (the metal cap) whent he engine is running, then put your ear to that. The one that doesn't have a (or has the quietest) ticking noise is the suspect. Also, if you have a multitester, you can check the resistance of the injector by disconnecting it from the harness and measuring the resistance of the injector. IIRC you want about 11 Ohms.



That certainly could be it. Anything causing the car to run rich and dump unburnt fuel into the catalytic could cause the odor.

Now I'm not sure where this line goes or is just capped off stock? I can't tell FSM or Haynes.

Its on the vacuum gallery but its the far right tube. Bends at 90 degrees, that capped? But the hose on my gallery is super long and is just hanging there.
