That is very true, but it was only a turd while NA boosted it was fun enough. And I had no problems cranking up the fuel and boost so no gas sipping horse crap :-P

That will actually depend on your turbo and manifold. The other week I was tempted to drop some S4's into the DET with a T25, after doing some old forum searches it came down to, you need dial out some of the overlap (S4's have 28* of overlap) with cam gears on a small turbo like that. VE cams have 48*, 20 more degrees of overlap so much more sensitive to restrictive setups (T28 included).
Once I got VET cams with 13* of overlap it did get better, but I didn't like the 16VE small low lobes (low torque) and then when big lobes would kick on it would just spin the tires. I didn't like the setup on the street, just like I didn't like the DET with a disco (12 psi) on street on my B15. Second gear is where I live powerband wise so need traction there .
