Thread: Alt over charging my battery?

So me and my dad installed a new altinator into my b13, the moment I start the car and turn on the headlights. The bulbs blow... I know it needs to be timed so I ignore the stubble when giving it gas and what not. But upon returning to the garage... I noticed the battery was super hot and bubbling. At idle the meter reads 18.4, give it a bit of gas and it goes up to 19.+ ..... Sooo wtf? And true battery light stays on

the voltage regulator is bad. its built into the alternator.

But it's brand new D: I guess I will return it..
