Metal pad on crossmember, necessary?
Okay, I'm fighting with the crossmember right now, and there's a pad on it at the moment. I'm thinking if I remove this metal pad, I may not have to pound it down, or shave the webbing on the DET block in order to not have clearance issues.

First of all, is the metal pad necessary? Doesn't look like it's very beneficial, tbh. Looks like it would do more harm than good if the block were to somehow hit it...

well the crossmember is still touching, just a tad bit. Going to go ahead and pound in the crossmembr a bit

I took mine off, and have taken it off of every friends car. I think it's just used for vibration dampening.

It's hitting your det oil pan correct? You can grind down the upper pan fins or the crossmember, whichever you choose. I would grind the fins down personally.

Too late. Don't really have a lot of time to mess with it. Need the car finished rather quickly, so I'm in high gear right now, and didn't wanna mess with the oil pan. Chose the path of least resistance (crossmember)

You can use a hack saw on the DET upper pan pretty easily. I'd rather do that than whale on the cross member.

Actually didn't take much with a 5lb sledge to the crossmember. Hit it just enough to clear and leave about .5" clearance between the pan and the crossmember. Fortunately I have the prothanes, otherwise I would have cut the pan instead. I'm not worried about the motor hitting the member.
